CANADA CUP SERIES EXPANDS TO BMX, NEW RACING OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG RIDERS
Newest Olympic cycling sport is gaining speed in Canada; New Canada Cup Series introduced for BMX
(Ottawa, ON January 18, 2012) The BMX scene in Canada has just improved, thanks the new expansion of the Canada Cup Series to the cycling sport of BMX.
In 2012, Canadas BMX scene will showcase an expansion of the Canada Cup Series for BMX, with five Canada Cup events including three Class 5 events held in three provinces Qubec, Alberta and British Columbia. The Canada Cup Series was launched 21 years ago, to promote the growth of Mountain biking in Canada.
The new Canada Cup Series for BMX was introduced as an action to answer the strong growth this sport has seen since its inception to the Olympic program. We have had outstanding BMX events in the past year, and we are ready to step it up and offer a new competitive BMX stream to young, up-and-coming riders who are making their way up to the international ranks, said Mathieu Boucher, Director of development at the Canadian Cycling Association.
St-Augustin-de-Desmaures will be hosting two Canada Cup races this season, after hosting very successful Canadian BMX Championships last season on an upgraded and safer track. The Alberta BMX Club will welcome two Canada Cup races in St-Albert, Alberta, while the Abbotsford BMX Club will organize one Canada Cup race the day following the 2012 Canadian BMX Championships.
In addition to announcing the Canada Cup Series for BMX, the Canadian Cycling Association also unveiled the dates of the 2012 Canadian BMX Championships, which will be held August 30-September 1 in Abbotsford, BC. The best Canadian riders will battle it out on the improved track in Abbotsford to win the ultimate prize the coveted Red and White Jersey.
BMX has seen an impressive growth in popularity since 2008, when it was first presented at the Olympic Games in China.

Winter indoor riding in Alberta
Posted: BMX Admin on Wed Dec 14, 2011 8:22 pm
Hello BMX rs
Indoor Facility will open at 10:30 am Saturday January 14, 2012. All riders affiliated with the following clubs, (as shown on the CCA license receipts):
Red Deer BMX, Airdrie BMX, Okotoks BMX, Calgary BMX and St. Albert BMX will enjoy free entry until the end of the season .
If you are a CCA registered rider , but affiliated with a club not listed above, please be prepared to pay a $10 drop in fee per day for the weekend of January 14 15th. Starting January 22nd , any riders affiliated with clubs that have chosen not to donate will have to pay the $75.00 per rider or $100 per family fee. This will have to be paid by cash or cheque made payable to Alberta BMX. The concession will be open on Race days only, so please bring your own drinks and snacks. Volunteers will be required daily to assist with the running of the track, we are hoping no one will decline the opportunity to help out when asked by any of the organizing committee. With this being the start of what we are hoping is a long term relationship with the Olds Ag society please consider where you are dropping your trash and respect the facility. Clean up after yourself, and please pick up any trash you see laying around. This facility is UNHEATED and yes it can get chilly in there for spectators, so please dress appropriately. We have made arrangement for large diesel powered heaters but they can only do so much. The restrooms are heated but lets not make them the socializing area. The best way to warm up is to grab a rake or shovel or broom and help out on the track.
The rules of every track in Alberta apply here as well, Full face helmets, Long sleeves, full finger gloves, and no exposed skin on your legs. All track volunteers directions are to be adhered too, and anyone not adhering to these rules will be invited to vacate the facility. The volunteers that have put many hours into making this happen are very excited for a fun few months of riding. Please be certain to thank any of them if you see them.
Regards
Mike Nelson

EDMONTON BMX WILL BE HOSTING PROVINCIAL RACE IN 2012
Posted: BMX Admin on Fri Sep 23, 2011 9:02 am
We will be hosting a provincial race in late June 2012. There will also be a indoor provincial race in Red Deer in April this will be finalized in the coming weeks. There will also be a race in the south in July and St.Albert will host one in August. The Grands will be in Calgary in September . The dates will be posted as soon as the race schedual is approved.
The CBA is revamping their whole series and there will be no out of province requirements but if you want to earn a C plate you will need to race the Grands which will be in Abbottsford next year. This series will be age class only just like the National Championships. They think the changes were needed to hopefully get the riders to attend a challenging series one step above the provincial level. There is still a bit of work to do before they can confirm all the details and we will post them once we have them. For more info click on the link. http://www.cbabmx.com/

The track is hard and fast already and the changes we made to the first corner and straight away make for some better racing. The first jump might get some fine tuning yet but we will wait and see how our training night goes.
We should have our new pavement down in a couple of weeks.
04-17-11
Another full Sat at the track and a lot of progress is being made. All the Electrical upgrades are almost done and our security cameras will be roughed in this week. We will be the first track in alberta to have 24 security with our new cameras as well the volunteers in the moto shed can see whats happening on the track during racing. Thanks to everyone who helped out. Once again the snow is almost gone lets keep our fingers crossed for some warmer weather.
04-9-11
Things are coming along really good and the track is almost snow free!
Thanks to Ron T., Bruce and Karen B., Augi M., Andrew L., Dave H., Shawn and Cathy L. for all the hard work yesterday. We will need more help in the coming weeks to get everything ready for the open house and the start of our season. Also thanks to Todd for volunteering to paint.
Here is some more pics with the latest work done.
