THE EDMONTON BMX ASSOCIATION

IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT OPERATES STRICTLY ON CLUB MEMBERSHIPS, DONATIONS, AND GRANTS

Founded in 1995, we are one of the largest BMX clubs in Alberta and possibly in Canada with members ranging in age from 5 to 55, with 90% under 16 years of age. Edmonton BMX is dedicated to the promotion and practice of health and fitness, while providing opportunities for families and our youth. We also openly practice and promote self-confidence, true sportsmanship and respect in order to instill a healthy value system in all of our members and visitors.

ABOUT BMX RACING

BMX is an excellent individual and family orientated sport. Races are organized into classes by girls and boys, then subdivided into age groups and skill levels.

There are three skill levels in racing Novice, Intermediate and Expert. All riders start as Novices and must work up to the more advanced levels by winning races. The age groups start from the 5 years old to 55+

Cruiser class (24" wheel) for boys and girls. Requires a Cruiser class bike. The age groups for the Cruiser class are 9 & under to 51 & older. All Cruiser riders compete at the same skill level.

Strider Racers - 5yr and under, they need a balance bike, long sleeve pants and shirt plus approved bike helmet.

Try Out the Track Before Committing
If you're thinking of trying BMX, why not give it a test run first? With our 1 Day Trial Pass, you can come in and check out the track before making a commitment. Simply check-in at our track office to sign the waiver. The best times to try out the track are on Open track days or during practice time before race night.

There are a few things you NEED:

  • Wear a long sleeve shirt

  • Full length pants, but NOT denim

  • Full faced helmet

  • Full fingered gloves

  • If your bike has pegs and/or reflectors, they must be removed.

Don’t have a bike to use? - we have some at the track you can borrow for the night. We have some extra jerseys and race pants and gloves you can borrow (sizing maybe limited)

**If you need equipment, It is a first come first serve basis - We are limited to the sizes and number of items we have.

STRIDER RACING

Our Striders are the future BMX stars! Strider Balance Bikes are lightweight, durable, and designed for riders ages 18 months to 6-years-old. Strider racing gives the opportunity to explore the world on two wheels and participate in friendly, competitive riding.

Every race night, we host Strider racing. It's free, and the racers earn a little treat after.

Come to the bike shed between 6-6:40 pm and sign a waiver.

Races start at 6:45 pm, right after the BMX practice is over.

Striders will be divided into groups based on age.

They will get to race 3-4 races on the half track.

What to wear: We encourage the kids to wear a long-sleeved shirt and pants, and runners (in case they fall, it helps prevent road rash) and they must have a helmet (regular bike helmet or full-faced). We also encourage bike gloves, but not mandatory.

If you don't have a Strider bike, we have a few the racers can borrow.
